The Balancing Eel fries traditionally prepared fish and chips on Back Lane, at the entrance to the Sloop car park, just off the harbour front in St Ives.
Cod and haddock are battered on the premises to the shop's own traditional recipe, served with local potato chips or a side salad, and the counter runs the full canon — wholetail scampi, 'Proper Cornish' pasties, steak and kidney pie, mushy peas, curry sauce, a pickled egg for those who know. Everything is cooked to order, for the restaurant and the takeaway both.
Eat in the cosy restaurant upstairs, away from the pesky seagulls, or carry yours to the harbour wall while it's hot. Gluten free is taken seriously — clearly marked and cooked in separate fryers — and when the beach won't let you leave, delivery runs through Just Eat.
